Thanks to the win over San Diego Flash, FC Tacoma 253 qualifies for the US Open CUP, so completing the 91-team field. Furthermore, the Club made history by being the first NPSL team in the Tacoma area to do so in the Modern Professional Era (1995 – present).
After a pre match strategy session in the locker room in which the coach Filippo Milano motivates his players, the squad goes out with enthusiasm and confidence.
And right after 9 minutes, Pedro Millan makes a terrific turn, shoots on target and scores his first goal with FCT 253 jersey! Ten minutes later, FCT 253 scores again thanks to a deflection that throw off San Diego Flash keeper.
The first half finishes with a great save by FCT 253 goalie and the score is set on 2-0.
In the second half the show doesn’t change. At 47th minute, captain Matt Shaxton assists Gareth Vaughn to put FCT 253 up 3-0 over San Diego Flash.
The away team tries to regain with a penalty kick converted by Sergio Valle-Ortiz at 54th minute. The score is now 3-1 but it doesn’t last too much.
At 72nd another penalty kick. This time it is for FCT 253. Pedro Millan easily converted it by throwing off the opponent keeper, for his double score!
Now FCT 253 has the game in its hands and scores twice in a row to end the game. Matt Shaxton and Eli Gordley sign up for the final 6-1.
“Today is a great day for the Club and the players”, says the President Giuseppe Pezzano. “We have to celebrate such an important result: we do not just win a game, we also make history. Nevertheless, we have a lot of work to do and our way is still very long. We have another important game in a week, and we must get ready for our debut in the NPSL.”
Pezzano ended by quoting the opponent team. “It was a derby game to me, since I am one of the senior part-owners of San Diego Flash. I want to thank their coach for the kind words he twittered right after the game and I wish them good luck for their future games.”
