After a slow start to the season, with 2 losses and a tie, OSA’s men’s team had two great victories in their double header weekend away in California.
Friday night OSA came out strong winning 3-1! Two goals were scored by Steven Wright, the 22 years old forward from UW, who found the back of the net in the 27th and 36th minutes. The last goal was scored by the Italian defender Marco Dugo, at the 50th.
OSA FC and Sacramento Gold had played each other three times last season, loosing each game to the Gold who were the 2015 Golden Gate Champions.
The Man of the Match award was given to Andrew Aur who created Steven Wright’s two goals. Aur was the real drive behind OSA offense, scoring two assists and creating several more opportunities, two of which Wright should have easily put in. Aur was also strong on the defensive end, using his speed and positioning to break down the attacks of the opposing team.
The guys played again on Sunday in the early afternoon, against Real San Jose. OSA FC was able to control the game from the start and went on to win 5-1.
Sean Russell scored within the first 2 minutes. Steven Wright put two more in at the 24th and 40th minutes. Matthew Stefanko scored in the last minute of the first half. The final goal was by Robert Landeros, in the 66th.
Steven Wright, the young player from the University of Washington scored 4 goals in 2 games, contributing substantially to the team’s wins!
OSA left the weekend with 7 points in 5 games with a 2-2-1 record, while the Portland Spartans FC have 8 points in 4 games with a 2-1-2 record.
There is still a lot more of the season left, and the the two Northwest team have to play each other 4 more times before the title of 2016 Northwest Champion is awarded!
